Battle Royale is loaded with untold amounts of crazy, unflinching hyper-violence. Battle Royale: Tenshi-tachi no Kokkyou. I think the movie is what started my love for Asian cinema and to this day I think it is one of the best movies I have ever seen let alone best Asian movie I have ever seen. The manga isn't afraid to delve into other areas of madness. Pacing is a bit okay right up until the end where it felt a bit rushed yet dragged on in differing ways, though compared to some other completed works it's a reasonably well-written, if unsurprising, ending. It was banned in several countries because of the subject matter, which makes it impossible to resist, right? As the story develops with each chapter you get greater insight to the characters past and current mind set. That was pretty fucked up. The version that I read was rather beautifully translated into English, replacing a fair amount of what I assume to be Japanese cultural jokes into stuff that reference Western stuff, and unlike a lot of these kinds of translations the ones I read are pretty well done.
